My earliest Muse, the Masters of the Universe and the Great Rebellion

The moment I discovered He-Man and the Masters of the Universe I was hooked. The world and characters were like nothing I had ever seen and it had my synapses firing at full speed.  She-Ra came along soon after and I could really identify with this woman who was way more bad ass than Barbie. She seemed more like the fighting spirit I could see inside my own momma and grandmother. The world of He-Man and She-Ra led me to comic books and the heroes of Marvel and DC and thus, my art style was born.

My latest painting was inspired by He-Man’s most trusted companion Cringer and the internet sensation lolcats. I CAN HAS A POWER Is available now

I sketched these characters day and night for many years, I begged for the toys, I rushed home after school to watch the cartoons and now they are still a huge part of my world.

My “No Fat Chicks” Skeletor is new, updated and now listed! A chubby Sorceress makes an appearance on his graphic tee.

Fisto, She-Ra, King Grayskull and King Randor dressed in their finest Viking garb and joined me on a recent trip to Latourell Falls. (fisto was and still is my favorite figure in the original and new toy line)

Just a few years ago Mattel and the Four Horsemen began releasing a re-vamped line of He-Man and She-Ra figures and they are stunning. I have quite a few of them and they often come with me on my hikes for photoshoots. Most of these make it to the Zachary Pryor Instagram page.

These simple, striking beauties remind me of something She-Ra would wear, so I named them ADORA VS DESPARA Despara was the name Hordak have She-Ra when she was his pawn.

I don’t quite play with the action figures, but I do travel and hike with them and just that act reminds me of the cherished memories I created with the original line of figures on the banks of the Aroostook river in Northern Maine.

A statement necklace worthy of the ladies in the Great Rebellion! The eagle bib with Egytian influences is ready for you!

The He-Man and Skeletor graphic Tee diptych is also in my Etsy shop.

So there you have it – a peek into one of my oldest, longest running creative influences and some of the new pieces in my world inspired by it. I would be very interested in hearing from you if you have any special memories that stem from the worlds of Etheria and Eternia! Reach out and let me know!

She-Ra in my heart, and on canvas

I have been a wee bit obsessed with She-Ra and the Great Rebellion since I was a little boy. My grandfather worked for Mattel and I would get all the new He-Man and Hot Wheels toys as soon as they came out. My cousin Jennifer would get the She-Ra figures and I burned with jealousy. My parents took notice of this building rage and decided to get me every figure made in the Princess of Power line one sweet Christmas. With each package opened my joy would expand and explode all over the place. I might have sequestered myself into my loft bedroom for many days in a row acting out scenes of Frosta playing house with Panthro and Glimmer shacking up with Fisto. (Lucky ladies)

Years later and I find myself still obsessed, but not just with the toys. I get to do the grown up thing now and paint them!

Here are but a few examples of pieces I have made. Keep in mind I take custom requests and can make you your very own favorite childhood hero/heroine piece at any time!

Staycation, winter hiking and the resulting inspiration and creation

Just a few days ago my friend Seasons and I headed to one of our frequent refueling spots, McMenamin’s Edgefield. She often gets a room there for a real recharge, but I never join in. In fact, I don’t believe I have ever purchased a room for myself while still “at home”. That changed on Thursday when we stayed over, ate gluten free pizzas and soaked in a nearly empty soaking pool. The soaking pool was amazing enough for me, but Seasons assured me it is often much warmer. The heavy rain cooled it down quite a bit, but also kept the masses away.
Staying the night at a hotel before a long snowy and slushy hike really turned it into more of an event for me and made the cold slush easier to endure.

The day began with clear skies and snowy hills. We opted for the Multnomah-Wahkeena loop. The trail from the Multnomah side ascends quickly, so we were hiking in snow in no time at all.

Many people turn back halfway through the 11 switchbacks, but if you soldier on you will discover dense forest and many more waterfalls. The rushing waters were made more spectacular after all of our recent rain and snowfall, but they also swallowed up many of the banks we usually spend time on.

The glory that awaits you after switchback #11!

Weisendanger Falls

Ecola Falls

After you pass 2 more truly impressive falls (Weisendanger and Ecola) the hike becomes a smidge tedious in winter months. The elevation keeps increasing and the snow is melting due to runoff underneath it and even the most waterproof boots become soggy. And then the clouds roll in and a downpour hits you on the head. You look at your friend and wonder, “Is she enjoying this? Am I?” The answer becomes yes after you realize you have a better waterproof coat in your pack and your friend is always happy in the woods, sogginess be damned. And also you see things like this:

The Columbia River

We returned to Edgefield after completing the hike with a descent that was wet as hell, but miraculously free of any wipeouts. A quick coffee with some uploading to instagram, Etsy and Facebook while nestled in a quiet nook brought me back to life. I was asleep by 10:30, and I’m a 3AM guy.

This little getaway and hike recharged me in the best way though and I was able to create beauties like these:

The Sensational She-Hulk hand-painted comic book superhero earrings

Come fly with me – raw smoky quartz crystal pendant with vintage gold chain

Sunrise in India – Vintage Gold leaf necklace with paisley rose quartz gemstone
